Welcome to Richmond Friends School

Richmond Friends School offers an individualized education from preschool till the 8th grade, divided into preschool, upper and lower elementary, and middle school classrooms.

The Richmond Friends School curriculum is guided by the underlying beliefs and principles stated in our mission statement.

While we strive for academic excellence, developing a sense of community and nurturing the uniqueness of each child is at the core of a Friends School education.  The Quaker values of peaceful conflict resolution, honesty, self-reliance and respect for all persons are embraced daily into our program creating an environment where students develop a deep regard for one another. The children’s participation in service to our school community and to the larger community beyond plays an integral part in developing a sense of caring and connecting to the world around us. Weekly All School Meeting, held in the manner of Friends, provides a time to reflect together as a community.

Academically, starting with the very youngest, students are encouraged to explore topics of individual interest and are directed toward development in the core content areas of language arts, math, science, and social studies. The Indiana academic standards are used as a guide in reinforcing curriculum development.  Teachers act as guides in the learning process and facilitate student exploration and the development of student knowledge and self-confidence. The small class size and multi-age classrooms encourages individualization of curriculum and enables a deeper connection between teacher and student. The educational aim of the school is to enable every student to learn at their own rate, guide each student in their personal development, and allow every student to achieve to their highest potential.

We do not teach religion nor require our students or teachers to belong to the Society of Friends. However, we do stress:

"I like this school because there are a lot of nice people and teachers"
